Who wrote the best songs in the Beatles?
I’d say George Harrison. I think he’s vastly underrated simply because he wasn’t allowed as many songs per album as Lennon and McCartney. But the songs he did write with The Beatles, as well as the majority of the songs on All Things Must Pass (which he’s said consisted of a lot of leftovers from the Beatle days), are *extremely* well-written. Lennon and McCartney were amazing song writers, don’t get me wrong. But I really like the quality that George’s songs had to them. Take, for instance, “You Like Me Too Much” compared to a number of other Beatles songs from that year (1965)–its message is more, “You don’t have the balls to leave me” rather than the usual, “I love you, you love me, la dee dah” or “Boo hoo you broke my heart”. The lyrics, to me, are far more interesting.
