What is teleology?
Teleology is an ethical system in which it determines morality through the end of an action. It is directly opposed to deontology, which determines morality through the means of an action. For example, if my action is: I steal a loaf of bread to fead my family, and we live because of it. The means is theft, which deontology would label immoral, teleology discards. Rather, teleology examines the end, which is, in this case, my family being saved. That would undoubtingly be moral, and thus the action of theft is, in that example, moral. As mentioned in the deontology explanation, it is worth noting the direct opposition of these two theories of morality. Also, worth noting is a common form of teleology, Utilitarianism.
