Are log cabins more at risk from fire/vandalism?
A4: Log cabins and log homes are no more prone to vandalism than any other structure, nor are log cabins at more risk from fire, on the contrary log cabins are less susceptible to fire than conventional structures. Log Home Scotland log cabin homes are made from slow-grown ring-dense solid logs of Scandinavian pine and spruce, averaging 90 years old when harvested. It is extremely difficult for fire to get hold on walls made from solid logs on account of their ring density and solid log mass. Furthermore, a house made of solid thick logs is an organic living breathing entity, when exposed to fire the logs produce their own natural vapour barrier that acts as fire retardant / sealant on the surface of log, hence preventing irreversible structural damage. In the aftermath of fire, the scorched surface of logs can then be removed with sand blaster back to top.
