If the player has been running a while I hear the fan when the tray is ejected and the cabinet doors are open. It runs for a short time when a new disc begins playing but then goes silent again. * I have my OPPO sitting on top of the cabinet, in the open, just 10 feet away, and I never hear the fan, even after hours of use, except for brief instances when the fan control logic is resetting itself — e.g. during new disc initial loading. With decent ventilation, whether enclosed in a cabinet or out in the open, the fan should be a non-issue for everyone.
