What event made Stalin so famous?

I’m gonna go with him coming to lead the Soviet Union soon after Lenin’s death in 1924. But, following that, I’m sure his name was spread around a good deal more during WWII when he was brought in by an assault from Germany on 6-22-41. His most famous achievement: Aiding the Allies in the victory of WWII. Without the Soviet front preoccupying Axis forces, the Allies likely wouldn’t have won WWII. Infamous: The Holodomor, or Ukrainian Genocide brought on through famine.
