How to tattoo a new motherboard?
If you have restore DVDs that include proprietary HP or Dell or other PC manufacturer programs (as well as Vista) you may be in for a hard time trying to get it to install on a third party motherboard/PC. It’s not Vista that causes the problem … it’s the manufacturer diagnostic software integrated into the restore disks. The “tattoo” is part of the BIOS. In order to trick the recovery disks you need to flash the BIOS chip with a pirated BIOS (which would be illegal). Hypothetically speaking, the problem is finding one specifically for your motherboard….anything else would render the board virtually useless. OEM Vista DVDs are much easier for hackers to trick because they will install on any PC at all. This allows hackers to later modify certain files as well as add pirated OEM certificates to the appropriate Windows sub-directory. Upon reboot Windows Vista reads those files & is hence considered activated….no BIOS modification needed. What is a Motherboard Tattoo?
