India during imperialism?

Hey, ill tell you all i know about it. The British invaded india for the tea and spices and the other natural resources that would make Britain rich, back then India was not only India as we know today, but it also included Pakistan and Bangladesh. So they basically invaded it for its resources and strategic military purposes, but mainly for the trade. A guy called Gandhi (i think i spelt his name right) did many things for indian Independence. India got its Independence in 1947 from Britain, Britain also drew up the borders for a new country called Pakistan because the two main religions in india didn’t want to live together, so they split the country in two. If you typ British Empire in google images it will show you Britians empire, it was places in a good position for trade, also it was good during the later period of the British empire when the Empire got bigger, so the British could trade from Australia, Malasia, Hongkong and south Africa. Britian also industrilized India.

The british and portuguese are the ones who colonized india. Mainly the british. India was seen as an ideal area to colonize because of the large manpower, the natural resources, the large area, and its strategic position for britain as a second headquarters (besides mainland Britain) First contact with india was in ancient times. A portuguese explorer was the first sailor to sail straight from europe to india. India pretty much became the white mans slave for a few hundred years.
