What Is A 3G Network or 3G Phone?
3G is is the 3rd generation of tele standards and technology for mobile networking. The old standard was 2.5G. The new 3G standard is based on the International Telecommunication Union family of standards under the IMT-2000. Basically 3G enables a wider range of advanced services like wide-area wireless voice telephony, video calls, and even broadband data, in a mobile environment. It is not like Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is a short range network that requires you be near a hotspot to gain access. A 3G network is a wide-area cell phone network that has evolved to include high speed internet access and video telephony. So you don’t need to be near a hot spot other than your mobile networks coverage area. To take advantage of this of course you need a 3G telephone. The phone that probably comes to mind with this new technology is the iPhone but there are many many others such as the Blackberry and Google’s new G1.
