How hard is it to become a cardiologist?
It takes more time and energy that just about any other field, but as long as you enjoy medicine, the journey is a lot of fun! (If you don’t really enjoy medicine, the journey is pure hell). It’s a very high demand job, and that demand will only increase. Requirements: 1) A bachelor’s degree (4~5 years). This can be in any subject you want, as long as you take the required pre-med courses (physics, general chemistry, organic chemistry, calculus, …) 2) 4 years of medical school (2 years in the classroom, then 2 years in the clinic) 3) 3 years of internal medicine residency (at this point you’re an actual doctor, learning while helping senior doctors treat patients). 4) 3 years of cardiology fellowship (like your residency, but focuses on the heart). 5) Optionally, another year of sub-sub-specialized training.
