No special permits are needed. Your U.S. /CDN drivers’ license is all that is required, unless you plan to continue on to Mexico’s mainland. Be sure to get Mexican insurance before crossing the border. Your U.S. insurance is not valid in Mexico. Do not drive in Mexico without Mexican insurance. If you rent a car they will provide this insurance for you at an additional cost or you can purchase an all inclusive travel insurance package through Sunshine Villas and Condos which includes Collision Damage Waiver insurance (CDW).
