Is cheese really a “healthy” food?
Cheese provides energy, protein, vitamin A (from the whole milk products it, is made with) and a range of B vitamins, including riboflavin (B2) and B12. It also gives you minerals like calcium, phosphorus and zinc. The nutritional information on the packaging should provide you with all the information you need to balance your diet.
While cheese certainly has nutritional benefits, it is best to eat it in moderation because of its high caloric and fat content. One ounce of cheese can pack a whopping 75 to 125 calories and approximately 9 grams of fat. People who suffer from lactose intolerance also often have difficulty digesting most types of cheese because it contains dairy products. However, eaten in moderation, unprocessed cheese can provide you with healthy doses of calcium, protein and phosphorus.
