What is the NCLEX-RN?
The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is a standardized, computerized exam, currently administered in the United States and its territories, that tests a nurse’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Test results are used by the U.S. boards of nursing when making licensure decisions. Anyone who wishes to practice as a registered nurse in the United States is required to take and pass the NCLEX-RN in order to become licensed. The NCLEX-RN is the examination that registered nurses are required to pass in order to obtain a nursing license in the U.S. This examination is currently only available in the U.S., however it is scheduled to be administered at certain international locations beginning in 2005.
