Who sets the levy and who can change it?
A simplified version of the process is as follows: • the CPCC files a statement proposing particular levies • this proposal is published by the Copyright Board in the Canada Gazette • the Copyright Board collects objections • the Copyright Board holds hearings • the Copyright Board sets the new levies for a period of 1 or 2 years • when the end of the levy period approaches, the process starts over The statement of levies the CPCC proposes to collect for the years 2003 and 2004 was published in the Canada Gazette on Saturday, March 9, 2002.
