What Is Arc Welding?

Video Transcript What Is Arc Welding? Hi! This is John on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this video clip, we will be discussing how arc welding actually works. The arc welding process uses an electric arc between a flex covered metal electrode and the base metal. Heat from the electric arc melts both the end of the electrode and the base metal to be joined. Typically this is used for maintenance and small production welding. If we take a look at this electrode, you notice that there is a metal core covered by a flux coating. The flux coating will help the weld form and will give you a much better product in the end. One thing that you always want to do is make sure that before you start welding, you clean your metal. This will make sure that you get good well beads made.
