There is solid gold (mucho expensive), there is gold plated (a single very thin layer of gold over an inexpensive base metal that will not wear well) and there is gold filled. Gold filled is multiple layers of 14K gold layered over a sterling silver base. Usually 100 times more gold than gold plated. Gold filled will last a lifetime, does not tarnish and is a great alternative to pure gold.
