According to the U.S. Department of Labor, mining is one of 17 hazardous occupations in which employment is restricted to persons age 18 or older. As a result, the EAC/FCX training programs emphasize safety in every aspect. All instructors and trainees will undergo New Surface Miner Training approved by the Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and strict attention to safety practices and personal protective equipment will be accorded. Freeport-McMoRan has an excellent safety record, and interns will be expected to comply with all safety practices at the mine.
