What is pixel art and how do I create it?
Pixel art is probably the oldest computer generated art that’s still being used. Instead of being painted, like normal art, one zooms in close and place pixels to make miniaturized and very crisp images of whatever you may want. It can be compared to old computer and console game art, from the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) for instance. Typically pixel art is also always under 256 colors as well, since that’s the limit of the GIF image format. If you use any post effect, like blurring your image or using anti aliased tools to make it it’s against the unwritten rules of pixel art and is hence indeed not pixel art at all. All anti aliasing in a pixel art image that you didn’t do yourself (i.e. not automated) is bad. Your image is then NOT pixel art just because it’s made up of pixels. If you didn’t make it after the “rules” then it’s probably best for you to upload it into the ‘Indy Art’ tier instead of into the ‘Pixel Art’. You can use any program you like as long as it has 2d gra
