How accurate are GPS receivers?
Consumers may remember that the first GPS products on the market were woeful underperformers. But the technology has improved vastly since then, and so have the maps, many of which can now be updated wirelessly in real time. Today’s models are also more compact and lightweight than previous iterations. GPS is starting to find its way out of the car and into a lot of niche markets, especially all manner of outdoor sports. Many devices are now true multitaskers, doubling as MP3 players and gaming consoles; some services can even be downloaded directly onto mobile phones. GPS technology is even being used in advertising. A recent campaign in London featured interactive ads on bus shelters that recommended local businesses. Expect to see a lot more from this technology in the years to come.
