I may offend people by saying so, but putting obesity in the same catergory (i.e disease) as cancer is frankly offensive. Yes it kills people, but because they stuff themselves with food not because they are “ill”. There is nobody holding them down saying “you must eat”. I do think that perhaps tendency to have a large appetite runs in the family, and I accept that it has been shown that problems with underlying conditions such as thryroid, prutuity gland or side effects of medications etc cause weight gain, but so does lack of exercise and over eating. It is what i refer to as an “indulgent illness”, same as drug addiction or alcoholism. Mainly self inflicted, and it costs the NHS too much money.
