What is a Porta Potty?

0

A porta potty is a portable toilet that is self-contained, portable, and can be transported to just about any location where a conventional restroom is unavailable. The original porta potty was constructed of wood, similar to outhouses, while the main difference between an outhouse and a porta potty is transportability. They were then made of metal, but that proved to be a bad idea after a little bit of time, giving rise for the need to yet again change the construction of the porta potty. And after a little time they became what we all recognize now as the porta potty; generally constructed of plastic and are usually a light blue color, although colors and sizes can vary depending on place of purchase/rental.

Porta potties are popular in many places such as construction or work sites, outdoor arenas where no other restroom is available, concerts, and even in some public parks. They can even be rented by private citizens who may be hosting a function and would rather not have people using their personal restrooms inside of their homes.

Generally, these toilets can hold a large amount of waste before reaching unsanitary levels, but their specific capacities are based on size, and more specifically on the size of the tank. An upside to porta potties is that they do not clog, however, if one were to be placed on an uneven plane, contents may shift.

Since these units are rented out to businesses and people by companies they are cleaned and maintained by the company and are kept to a standard of cleanliness.

A porta potty can refer to several different types of toilets or portable bathrooms. Often in the US, porta potty refers to small toilets that can be used by toddlers while they are being potty trained. At the same time, porta potty may refer to portable bathrooms you’re likely to find at outdoor events, construction sites, and anywhere else where it would be inconvenient or impractical to build a bathroom. The porta potty that is really a portable bathroom is not always a wonderful place to be. Usually, instead of having flushing ability, the bottom of the toilet bowl is coated with chemicals that slowly degrade human waste. Many also find this type of bathroom short on cleanliness because most do not have a sink. Waterless handwash, available in dispensers, has been a boon to the portable toilet industry, since people can at least clean their hands after using the bathroom. For children, the porta potty is much smaller, and generally placed in the bathroom next to the regular toilet.
