What is clinical social work?
As defined by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) the practice of clinical social work is “a service in which a special knowledge of social resources, human capabilities, and the part that unconscious motivation plays in determining behavior, is directed at helping people to achieve more adequate, satisfying, and productive social adjustments.” Clinical social work includes but is not restricted to: applied psychotherapy of a non-medical nature, assessment, treatment planning, diagnosis, resource coordination/referral and case management, and conducting research related to social work.
