The ALA election process begins with the preparation of the slate of candidates by the ALA Nominating Committee; there are also nominating committees in each of the divisions, sections of divisions, and the round tables. These slates are reported to the appropriate governing boards during the Midwinter Meeting. The winners of the 2010 Newbery and Caldecott medals and other ALA youth media awards were announced on Monday, January 18, 2010, at 7:45 a.
