What is Thyroid?
Thyroid hormone made by the thyroid gland regulates the metabolic rate of the body. Low thyroid causes thinning hair, low energy levels (feel sluggish), cold intolerance, and weight gain with fat on the belly and hips.Overall body energy is regulated by thyroid hormone. Body temperature is typically about 97F, not 98.6. So, in addition to Restless Leg Syndrome, the patient also the build up of fat on the hips and belly despite dieting and exercise. The Restless Leg Syndrome patient usually has sugar cravings just before the period. In contrast, excess thyroid causes higher energy levels, feeling too warm, and weight loss. The thyroid gland produces thyroid hormone in two basic flavors T3 and T4. T3 is the more potent between T3 and T4. The thyroid gland is stimulated thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) produced by a small gland in the brain called the pituitary gland. This gland is stimulated in turn by thyrotropin-releasing hormone produced by the hypothalamus, another part of the brain
