What is the Mills Act?
The Mills Act is designed to encourage restoration and preservation of historic buildings. It benefits local governments by promoting rehabilitation and revitalization of neighborhoods, conserving resources, and building civic pride and a sense of place. Property owners benefit by qualifying for property tax relief in exchange for a commitment to rehabilitate and maintain the historic and architectural character of their properties for at least a ten-year period.
