Which kinds of vegetable oil are suitable for powering (converted) diesel engines?
There are more than 2000 kinds of “oil fruits” (seeds, nuts, etc.), most of them usable as fuel source. Oil yields vary quite a bit and therefore of course the oil price. Viscosity is also a variable that makes certain oils more suitable than others. Canola, sunflower seed and soy bean oil are the most affordable and widely available. It’s important that the oil meets the so called 05/2000 Weihenstephan standard for cleanliness and viscosity.
