How high is a hedge allowed to grow?

0

In accordance with the Minimum Maintenance By-Law, a hedge must be kept trimmed and from becoming unreasonably overgrown in a manner that may affect safety, visibility or passage of the general public. Adherence to hedge dimensions becomes particularly important when a hedge flanks or is otherwise adjacent to a driveway, that is, a driver’s view must not be obstructed by the hedge when pulling into or out of the driveway. Depending on the hedge dimensions, it may be considered a fence and, therefore, would have to meet the standards outlined in the City’s zoning by-law. A fence on the side or rear of a property can be 1.2 metres (6’ 6″) high; a fence in the front yard may be 1 metre high. For further information about fences and fence heights (particularly if you live on a corner lot) you may contact the City of Brampton Zoning Department at (905) 874-2090, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.
