What is peripheral arterial disease (PAD)?
Peripheral arterial disease is the disease process involving the arteries and sometimes the veins of our upper and lower limbs. The lower limbs are involved in a majority of cases. The underlying problem is a reduced blood supply to the tissues of the limb. This usually results from a progressive narrowing of the arteries with age and deposition of fatty materials in the arterial wall, similar to the condition in the heart.
