WHAT IS THE PROPOSED STATE OF PALESTINE?
A. State of Palestine, which consists of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip have been under illegal military occupation by Israeli forces since 1967, and in 1988, the Palestinian National Council, (the Palestinian parliament), declared the PROPOSED state of Palestine as the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as the capital. This declaration was based on UN resolution number 242 and other resolutions related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. This proposed state is not independent yet. After the peace agreement signed with Israel in 1993, parts of Gaza Strip and the West Bank has been given back to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and other areas, which is more then 60% are still under Israeli military occupation. The declaration of the Palestinian state means to declare the independence of Palestine and the end of the Israeli occupation.
