What is dragon boat?
Dragon boat is a team water sport involving one long boat, 20 paddlers sitting 2 in a row (10 rows) paddling in unison with a caller instructing the paddlers on what to do in the race and a steersperson standing at the back. Dragon boat races can involve up to 10 boats at a time for races usually 500m in length.
The traditional Chinese sport of dragon boat racing is considered one of the fastest growing sports globally, and competitions take place around the world. The sport is very popular in Canada and we are fortunate to be able to race against a high level of competition here in Toronto. Awash with adrenaline, each dragon boat team (comprised of 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steersperson) will compete against other teams to the finish line. The typical sprint race distance is 500m of heart-pounding excitement.
