What is a Controlled Hunt?
A20. A controlled hunt is a hunt where a limited number of hunters can hunt in specified area. The number of hunters is limited because an open hunt would result in excessive harvest or overcrowding of hunters. Since hunter numbers can be limited, special opportunities can be offered for quality trophy hunts or antlerless hunts can be scheduled to achieve harvest goals. You apply for Deer, Elk or Antelope hunts May 1 through June 5th and are notified if you successfully drew a permit by July 10. The details of the application process can be found at http://www2.state.id.us/fishgame/hunt/ch/chuntap.htm. Any permits not purchased by August 1 will be issued in a second drawing.
