What is a Software Balanced Scorecard?
A Software Balanced Scorecard is an easily understood, select set of metrics that quickly convey Business information. Items reported should help management make better decisions by replacing opinions with facts. For example three departments claim they improved productivity by at least 10%. Which one did best? What were the key success factors? Will those factors transfer to other departments? Which department had the best Quality and by how much? A Software Balanced Scorecard, that shows Productivity increased by 25%, Quality improved by 32%, and/or Maintenance was reduced by 30%, can quickly prove the value of a staff, the success of Management policies or both. Even more valuable is when the Software Balanced Scorecard alerts Management to misperceptions or problems before it’s too late to react. As business conditions change, so should the Software Balanced Scorecard. One year the Business focus may be on Productivity. The next year the focus may be on Quality, the next on Value.
