Can get my gas fireplace to light?

You should NOT smell propane anywhere. That’s indicative of a leak. I would close the valve at the tank and call your gas company again, telling them you smell gas. As far as the fireplace goes, you may not be getting gas to the fireplace if you have a leak. Or the orifice at the pilot light may be dirty. This is common and easy to clean if you have an air compressor and an old toothbrush. Just vigorously brush the area around the orifice while blowing with compressed air. Vacuum up any dust that’s accumulated around the logs. I just did mine about an hour ago !
