How does the fee help farmers?
A portion of the fee pays for programs that help farmers and the agricultural community directly for example: • the “Fish and Ditch” program that is working to find a way that farmers can drain their fields without hurting salmon that will comply with federal and state laws. • The Livestock Management Ordinance Cost Sharing program that shares the cost of putting up fences and implementing farm management plans that keep animal waste from polluting waterways • King County also participates in the Farm Fresh program that brings local produce to market all over the County. • The acquisition of farm lands that would otherwise not be used for some other purpose.
