What are Customs publicity efforts in promoting IPR?
Understanding that infringing activities cannot be eradicated by vigorous enforcement actions alone, Customs is dedicated to promotion and public education in relation to IPR. We often join hands with the Intellectual Property Department, other government departments, the IPR industry and related organizations to organize various promotion activities. For example – In 2004, a large-scale publicity campaign entitled Hong Kong — The Real Experience, which comprised a TV API, a road show exhibition, an IPR seminar as well as a carnival was organized. In June 2005, an animated programme was launched on the IPRPA website to warn students not to participate in infringing activities during the summer vacation, e.g. selling counterfeit goods on Internet auction sites or selling pirated optical discs and taking part in illegal P2P file sharing activities on the Internet. Noting the rising trend of P2P Internet piracy, Customs have been delivering talks to Parent-Teacher Associations of differe
