What is medium format photography?
” You may have heard this expression from wedding photographers. Some high cost photographers boast that they only shoot in “Medium Format.” But most $1,000+ wedding photography packages are a mix between 35mm and medium format. We believe an 80/20 (35mm/medium format) mix to be ideal in terms of the final collection of photographs in terms of quality. First, this is what Medium Format is not. Medium Format photography is no different from any other photography. The equipment is not superior to 35mm. The same manufacturers produce the same film for Medium Format as 35mm. The negatives are processed the same for all types of film photography. “Medium Format” simply refers to the size of the film. 35mm is 35mm wide and Medium Format film is 60mm wide. So actually it is 35mm photography and 60mm photography. Medium format produces a larger size negative. That is the only difference. Obviously, then a different camera must be used.
