Why are nuts recommended as part of a healthy diet?
The mono and poly unsaturated fats found in nuts are proven to be good choices when adding fat to the diet. In moderation, nuts have been shown to decrease the risk of heart disease (when combined with a diet low in total fat and high in fiber).Nuts are also a good source of the newly discovered plant sterols. Plant sterols are beneficial compounds found in foods that have potential protective health benefits. Check out the Peanut Institute for great studies focused on this topic. www.peanut-institute.
