Where is Isla Solarte?
Isla Solarte is an island in the Bocas del Toro archipelago and it is approximately 3 miles long and less than a half mile across at its widest point. The waters surrounding it are always calm due to its position next to Bastimentos (its much larger neighboring island) which fully protects it from the open Caribbean. It sits about 9 miles off the coast of Panama and is part of an archipelago of over 100 islands that begin at the border with Costa Rica and hug the Panamanian caribbean coast for miles. While the surrounding area as a whole is virtually undeveloped, Bocas del Toro, the capital city of the province, sits a mile away on the neighboring island of Colon (named for Christopher Columbus, who visited there in 1502).
