How Do the Creative Arts Fit In?
The artistic process unfolds throughout the grades. In the early grades, students learn artistic technique by imitating the teacher’s example. Gradually, the child’s own inner creativity is expressed as it comes alive for the child. By guiding each child’s artistic expression, the teacher encourages the development of attitudes, habits, and life patterns. The visual and performing arts in a Waldorf school are not compartmentalized “lessons” presented without any relationship to the rest of the curriculum. They are integral not only to every activity in the curriculum but also to every moment spent in school.
