A male cat doesn’t actually ‘come into heat’ as a female does but they become sexually mature at around six months of age and that’s when the ‘fun’ starts. If though he comes in contact with a female cat on heat a little earlier than this, that also can bring on sexual maturity in the male. Once he reaches maturity he’ll start marking his territory and becoming quite vocal. They tend to wander around the house and yowl (calling for a female) and can also become more aggressive as well. The spraying is a territorial thing but it’s also to advertise for a female.
