How fast do hermit crabs die?
when having hermit crabs, most people don’t realize that ou should have about five different sized extra shells for them to move into as they grow–a lot of tmes when you purchase them, they are already almost too big for the shells they are in and if they can’t find a new shell of their choice, they tend to die fairly quickly
Hermit crabs can be hard to care for pets. Beyond food and water they need at least 70% humidity and 75 degree f temps. If you gave them all of that then they might have just died of disease. I’ve had hermit crabs for about a year and a half now and had at least 5 die within a month of bringing them home. If you really want to have hermit crabs, I would suggest getting a heater and humidity reader. which your can find at any large petstore.
If you take proper care of them, keep them with the proper conditions they can live for 20 years plus. If you do not take proper care of them they die fast.. many people do not bother to research prior to buying them. It is not as easy as what people say and pet stores always point you in the wrong direction. It could have been post purchase stress which is common and will be deadly if the new owner does nothing to aid the crabs. They need specific tank conditions a proper tank with solid lid.. lights and heat dechlor water and dechlor marine salt water fresh fruits and veggies, temps between 75-82 F and humidity between 74-85 realitive both of which need to be constant and sustained. They need sand to dig in and lots of extra shells.. eccoearth is another great bedding material. Check out the site in the post above mine it is right on the mark with crab care etc.
