Why is IP telephony less expensive than traditional phones?
Traditional phones are connected via circuit switching technology using copper cable wires or fiber optics while in IP telephony everything is virtually connected through Internet’s “intelligence”. It is very much decentralized, or dispersed, versus the PSTN which bundles transport and applications ensuing in the medium’s intelligence residing at central points in the network.
