What is a red light violation?
In Arizona the point of violation is defined as the Prolongation of the Curb Line. Simply stated this is a line from the curb face on one side of the street to the curb face on the opposite side of the street. If a vehicle crosses this point after the traffic control light has turned red, they are in violation of running the red light. On right turns on red signal, the vehicle must make a complete and discernable stop, prior to the point of violation, and then may proceed through when traffic has cleared and it is safe to do so.
There are Two Types of Red Light Violations: • Right Turn on Red without coming to a complete stop. You may be cited with a Red Light Violation if you fail to bring your vehicle to a complete stop before turning right when the light is red. Turning right on red, after bringing your vehicle to a complete stop, is only allowed at intersections that do not have signs prohibiting such turns. Motorists already in the intersection when the signal changes to red, when waiting to turn for example, are not considered red light violators.

A red light violation occurs when a vehicle is present in an intersection while the traffic control signal for the intersection is emitting a steady red signal. The City of Creve Coeur has adopted regulations for the automated enforcement of Creve Coeur City Traffic Ordinance 16-398, Violation of Public Safety at Intersection. A vehicle may not be present in an intersection when the traffic control light is in the red phase. In the absence of a right turn on red restriction, a vehicle can make a right turn on the red, only after making a complete stop, and assuring that it is safe to proceed.
