Friend, Family, or just a Contact?
When you add a person to your network, you can specify what is your relationship: – friend – family member – both, Family and Friend (e.g. a childhood friend who knows your friends and also your family) – contact (ideal when you discover on ipernity a member you want to keep up with). This is an implicit choice: if you don’t tick the “Friends” and the “Family” boxes, then the person you invited is added as a simple contact. It’s an important choice because it determines what people will be allowed to see in your space: – A friend will have access to your docs and posts marked for “Friends” – A member of your family can view your docs and posts marked for “Family” – A member of Family & Friends will be able to see what you share with “Friends” and with “Family” – A contact will have access only to your “Public” sharings – Everyone, whether or not an ipernity member, will have access to your “Public” content.
