I will be doing laboratory research with mice or maybe rats. Does the IRB review animal research projects?
The IRB is for human research only. Animal research projects are overseen by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in much the same way that the IRB reviews and oversees human research. If you expect to do animal research in your Emphasis project, please contact the IACUC early in your planning to learn about requirements for training and project review. Visit the IACUC website here (access to this website requires your VUnet ID and password). The IACUC’s offices are located in room AA-6206 Medical Center North and can be reached by phone at (615) 936-8163.
