What is the Michigan Promise Scholarship?
The Michigan Promise Scholarship was established by the State in December of 2006. The award replaces the Michigan Merit Award. It provides up to $4,000 to high school graduates for successfully completing two years of postsecondary education beginning with the high school graduating class of 2007.
The Michigan Promise Scholarship (formerly the Michigan Merit Award) is a state program for high school seniors based upon test scores on the Michigan Merit Exam (MME) high school tests. Students who qualify for this award will be notified by the state of Michigan during the spring of or summer following their senior year. The student must then notify the state regarding the college or university that the student plans to attend, so the award may be sent to the school in time for the fall.
