For a low cut lawn or putting green, how does velvet bent compare with the creeping or browntop bent?
Cultivars of Velvet bent such as Avalon or Vesper can be used for a close mown lawn. The difference you will find with Velvets is that they are much finer leaved than the creeping or browntop bents. Also Velvets will hold a much greener colour through both summer and winter. Furthermore Velvets require minimal feeding. As with all bent grassses, regular thatch control is required to keep the lawn in good order. Question: I’m looking for some advice. We have an 6 acre field of which 1 acre has been disturbed by the water board so it needs rotivating and seeding for horses. We are clay soil and want this acre to establish as quickly as possible. We also want to spread some seed over the other 5 acres and also fertilize the whole paddock. Could you advise on the best products and quantities. Many Thanks Answer: Please refer to our product section/Landscaping and look for the Horse and Pony Paddock. This is supplied in 1 acre packs. Apply 1 of the to the new area and 1/2 a pack to overseed
