The construction dates are very well documented because the issuance of government bonds to the railroads to finance construction was based on miles completed. (For CPRR details, see Galloway, and the table in the report of 1877, and the report of 1883.; the UPRR website has an “End of Track Dateline, 1865-1869” map.)
