I agree that going to Shinagawa to extend your visa is a pain, but I’d highly consider it. First, you are never guaranteed entry into a country. It was mentioned in a previous question that you cannot stay beyond the 90 days, or however many days Ireland and Japan have reciprocal agreements. When you think about all the grey areas of the law, you have technically stayed for one year, and you could be refused entry. I would at the very least try to find out from the Ministry of Justice (they do all the immigration grants) whether or not you can obtain a traveller’s visa immediately after a working holiday. However, I do not believe you have to worry too much about leaving and coming back. If you come back and want to work again, the chances of getting into trouble are about as likely as your company actually allowing you to work.
