How does Newtons 2nd Law apply?
The acceleration is increased proportionally as the mass is increased. Newton’s 2nd Law says that the acceleration of an object is proportional to the net force of the object and thereby being also proportional to the mass of the object. The acceleration is the net force divided by the mass and as such would increase because both the force and the mass would be increasing if the hanging mass is increased. Describe the change in acceleration of the system as the total mass of the cart is increased. How does Newton’s 2nd Law apply? The acceleration of the system is decreased proportionally as the total mass is increased. The acceleration of the system is equal to the quotient of the force of the hanging mass due to gravity and the mass of the system. So as the mass of the cart increases so does the total mass therefore the acceleration decreases proportionally. Conclusion: The purpose of this lab was to prove Newton’s Law, focusing on Newton’s 2nd Law but using a Modified Atwood Machine
