How is coaching related to mentoring?

0

While coaching and mentoring overlap, they are distinct. Generally, coaching is a structured relationship that has an agreed upon duration and the focus is on achieving specific goals. Mentoring is often an ongoing relationship that can last for an indefinite period, is more informal, and tends to be more long term development focused. Generally the mentor is more experienced and qualified than the mentee and is often a more senior person in the organization who can impart knowledge and open doors that would be otherwise out of reach. Further, a good coach has received coach specific training and may have International Coach Federation certification.
